The Inspection Department of the Engineering Division of Public works inspects major public works construction projects; ensures conformance with plans and specifications through observation, calculation of quantities and sampling of material; prepares reports of work progress and activities; works cooperatively with other city departments.

They also note approved changes or revisions on project plans, material and/or cost; confer with superiors regarding unauthorized deviations from plans and specifications, project delays and other matters requiring their attention and work to resolve citizen complaints relating to project work.
